Rules, Guidelines, and General Information
Cosplay Chess is a live-action chess game using convention attendees as the chess pieces on a large-scale chess board. At Nagu Con, we host two games: Main and Improv.
- In the Main game, all movements are scripted and "King Cards" are used when pieces meet to dictate the actions of the battles. The Kings lead the game with their back-and-forth banter, while the designated chess masters guide the pieces around the board. The Main game always ends in a draw since it is purely for entertainment purposes and gives every piece the opportunity to play the game.
To Participate: you must sign up to participate in this game and you must attend ALL REHEARSALS to keep your spot on the board. Rehearsals provide participants the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the movements of the game and to prepare their individual battle sequences. Sign Ups are found below!
- In the Improv game, things are a bit more random. Chess masters move pieces based on cards drawn from a deck, meaning they really have no control over the game and using strategy to win is completely pointless. When pieces meet, they have the option to battle using "King Cards" or simply their own talents at improv. Who wins this game is anyone's guess, and it's really up to the cards.
To Participate: be in the designated area at the beginning of the game. Spots will be given randomly to individuals as follows: first, those who did not participate in the Main game; second, those who were removed early on in the Main game; third, all others from the Main game.
